New Report Calls State of our Rivers: A CRISIS
A new report co-authored by a UW-Madison Professor states that
our world's rivers are in a dire state of crisis.
"Nearly 80 percent of the world's human population lives where river waters are degraded or depleted and their water security is highly threatened," according to the report being published in the journal Nature.
"And thousands of species of plants and animals in 65 percent of the globe's rivers are at risk of extinction because of lack of water, pollution and destruction of watersheds."
Facts like these detail exactly why Milwaukee Riverkeeper's programs and projects are of such importance. Many of the rivers in our own country (and our own backyard) are seriously degraded and we are trying to restore them NOW before it's too late!
The report was recently covered by Don Behm of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Click here to read the full article.
