Monarchs leave the County
Grounds
The Monarchs have departed the
County Grounds, but there's still plenty to see and do. The paths at
the grounds are the perfect spot to take in the fall colors, and
other butterflies may still be seen. Due to the popularity of the
Monarchs, the site is one step closer to being secured, and
hopefully will be open to the public again next year!

A simple
step to help curb pollution
While fall leaves may
make a perfect photo subject, they can wreck havoc on storm drains. You
can make a difference by removing leaves from drains, streets, and
gutters, and ensuring that leaf piles stay downstream of storm drains so
pollutants and debris stay out of our rivers and lakes. A helpful guide
from Dane County may be found
here [PDF].

Come support Assembly Bill
504
Wednesday, October 10, 2007: 10am
State Capitol Room 417
North (GAR Hall)
For
decades, the Wisconsin DNR secretary was selected by a
governor-appointed Natural Resources board resulting in a stable, capable department. All that changed in 1997 when Tommy Thompson deemed the
governor alone should appoint the DNR secretary, resulting in arguably
less-qualified appointees. Most people with an interest in Wisconsin's
natural resources would like to see the old system return. Assembly Bill
504, sponsored by Representative Scott Gunderman, R-Waterford, seeks to
restore the board-appointed secretary and will be the
subject of a public hearing on October 10th at 10am. It is critically important
for members of the public to register or testify in favor of the bill in
order for it to pass! |
